FAQ

What can I talk to you about?

Pretty much anything that is weighing on you and would benefit from an honest outside perspective.

That might mean problems with your partner, your kids, employees, career, business, sex life, or something you've been carrying in your head for too long.

You might want help preparing for a hard conversation, figuring out whether you are overreacting, deciding what to do next, working through a leadership problem, improving how you handle conflict, interviewing better, or simply getting a clearer read on a situation.

You do not need to fit neatly into a category before you reach out.

1

Is this therapy?

No.

The Mantle is not therapy, mental health treatment, diagnosis, or crisis care.

The work is practical and conversational. You bring the situation, I ask questions, challenge what needs challenging, and give you an honest read on what I see.

If what you are dealing with belongs with a licensed mental health professional, I will tell you that.

2

Is this coaching?

Not in the traditional sense.

I'm not running you through a program, giving you homework, or trying to turn your life into a twelve-step personal-development system.

Sometimes we may talk about goals, habits, leadership, relationships, or behavior.

But the starting point is usually much simpler:

What's going on, what are you missing, and what needs to change?

3

What happens after the first conversation?

The first conversation is 15-30 minutes.

We talk. You get a feel for how I think, how direct I am, and whether talking to me is useful.

I ask a few questions, get a sense of the situation, and decide if a full session makes sense.

There's no pressure to continue if it does not feel like a good fit for either of us.

4

What if I am the problem?

I'll tell you.

The point is not for me to automatically take your side.

I'm here to tell you the truth whether the answer is in your favor or not.

5

Do you work with relationship problems?

Yes.

That can include communication, resentment, conflict, boundaries, intimacy, dating, parenting, family issues, or trying to understand why the same argument keeps happening.

The Mantle is not couples therapy or marriage counseling, but relationships are a large part of real life and come up often.

And sometimes, work/career issues bleed into relationships, causing your relationships to bleed back into your career.

6

Can you help with work or career problems?

Yes.

I have more than 15 years of experience in leadership, hiring, training, employee development, operations, and performance management.

That can include difficult employees, bad bosses, interviews, resumes, career changes, leadership decisions, workplace conflict, or figuring out whether the problem is the job, the company, the manager, or your own approach.

7

Do I need to be in crisis?

No.

In fact, it is usually better to talk before things become a crisis.

You might be stuck on a decision, irritated by something that keeps happening, unsure how to approach a conversation, or tired of thinking about the same problem without getting anywhere.

8

Are sessions remote or in person?

Most sessions are remote.

Limited in-person conversations may also be available locally when it makes sense. That could mean meeting somewhere private, walking through a business or work environment with you, or talking through a situation in real time.

The Mantle is still one-on-one advisory.

I am not coming over to referee an argument, run a couple's session, mediate your family, or hold a round-table conversation with everyone involved.

9

What if you think I need a therapist, attorney, doctor, or financial advisor?

I will tell you.

Sometimes the most useful thing I can do is tell you that the situation has moved outside my lane and that you should talk to someone who specializes in that specific issue.

10

Are conversations confidential?

Yes, within the limits described in my policies.

The entire point is to give you somewhere private to talk honestly without worrying about the conversation becoming gossip, workplace politics, or family drama.

11

Do you only work with men?

The Mantle is built for men.

The perspective, communication style, and work are centered on the pressures men carry and the way men often process responsibility, conflict, relationships, leadership, and difficult decisions.

That focus is intentional.
